Annette Jael Lehmann, Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. has studied Comparative Literature, Art History, American Studies and Philosophy in Berlin, Oxford and Berkeley. Since 1999 she is Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature and Media Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. She is working in the field of Anglo-American Cultural and Literary Studies of the 19th and 20th century, with an emphasis on Visual Cultures Studies. |

| At the interdisciplinary 'DFG-Sonderforschungsbereich Kulturen des Performativen' she is focussing on the aesthetics and history of new media in context of contemporary multimedia art and installation. Her book Kunst und Neue Medien. Themen Tendenzen und Entwicklungen seit den 1960er Jahren is contracted with the UTB-Press (forthcoming winter 2004). Recently the project Spatialities in Visual Culture is part of a cooperation with the ETH-Zürich. Her publications include: Im Zeichen der Shoah. Aspekte der Dichtungs- und Sprachkrise by Rose Ausländer and Nelly Sachs, Tübingen 1999; Un/Sichtbarkeiten der Differenz. Beiträge zur Gender-Debatte in den Künsten, Tübingen 2001; (with Jutta Eming and Irmgard Maassen) Mediale Performanzen. Historische Konzepte und Perspektiven, Freiburg 2002. Her habilitation is entitled: Exposures. Discourse and Visuality in 19th Century America (forthcoming in fall 2004). She was awarded the first price of the Junge Akademie an der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Deutschen Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina in 2002 and and is fellow at the Rothermere Institute for American Studies at the University of Oxford. |
